- Cranes of Peace
Inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki, St. Mary’s Conwy collaborated with Pensychnant Conservation Centre to create a community art installation of more than 1000 origami peace cranes: Cranes of Peace – Community Art Installation – caruconwy.com
The installation celebrates Conwy town’s twinning with Himeji in Japan, a shining example of international cooperation and friendship. Over 50 community and school workshops took place under the direction of Lynn Williams, member of the British Origami Society.
The cranes remained at the church throughout the summer and autumn of 2024 before being turned into a photographic exhibition in partnership with Conwy Camera Club. The exhibition will be on display at the Conwy Culture Centre from December 2024 until February 2025.
- Conwy Classical Music Festival Fringe
To support the growth of this annual festival, fringe events were planned between the main festival concerts. These small scale and intimate events showcased a range of musical genres and were held in such culturally rich venues such as the Hidden Chapel and Plas Mawr. The fringe events allowed the festival to expand into the town and bring a more diverse selection of music.
- Conwy Bird Trail
In collaboration with the Carneddau project, art workshops were held to support the design and creation of copper bird sculptures. These were installed on buildings of significance around the town to create a trail. A local artist was commissioned to create a beautiful map which will lead you to the various sites and give you some information on the buildings chosen.
Conwy Culture Centre was included in the trail and has a large copper corvid and three cranes for you to find and enjoy. The cranes were added as a nod to the Cranes of Peace project and all three have lines from the project’s specially commissioned poem in English, Welsh and Japanese.

- Archbishop John Williams
A new interpretation panel was commissioned to commemorate Archbishop John Williams and his service to Conwy town during the Civil War between King Charles I and Oliver Cromwell.
